I am terrified....

Well, if you read yesterday's post. You know that I made chicken curry, for the first time.

Well, since I only cook for me....

I finagled with the recipe and made a crock pot full.

I don't know, what's that, 40, 50 gallons?

So, this morning I awoke to the scent of chicken curry still permeating the entire house.

I have 5 or 6 of those wax warming things around the house and that mixed with the chicken curry...

via

Well, it's legendary.

Now, here's my dilemma...

The chicken curry is currently residing in the crockpot with the lid tightly on, in the refrigerator.

via

The chicken curry is very tasty.

But, I don't dare heat it up.

And I'M TERRIFIED TO OPEN THE LID.

I am seriously considering calling a hazmat team.

Dadu To The Rescue!

Oh my!!!  Yummy, Yummy!

I visited an international food market, I love these types of places!

The owners here are Greek and took a shine to me. I mentioned that I love cheese as I was mentally drooling on their cheese counter.

And well, Elias, took out two of these little cuties and it was instant love!

It tastes like chocolate coated cheesecake!

Going Old, Old, Old School

Sometimes, it is just better to go with an oldie but goodie.

For example:

Whoa, Baby!

GAK! I couldn't stand the fashions of the 70's! I was one smart little kid!

Okay, that was a horrible example.

But, I do remember thinking that these were the GROOVIEST!

GROOVY, BABY!

I wonder how many goldfish died in the 70's for this fad.

But this isn't old, old, old school enough.

For example:

OH, YEAH!!!!
Oh, Kool-Aid Man! I was always terrified you would show up at my house. I had to switch to Hawaiian Punch.

Now, you maybe thinking, "Yes, this is old school. But damn! I wish she would get to the damn point already!"

Pfffft....shut up you.

Anywhoo.....

If you are thinking that Kool-Aid is a product of the 60's and 70's, you are wrong.
Hellooooo, developed in the 1920's!! Now that is pretty Kool!
Plus, I checked out the Kool-Aid website and OMG!!!! There is an app that you can download and the Kool-Aid Man will photobomb your pics!!! I may just have to get a new phone!!!

Okay, seriously....Throw away all your spoons.

I will wait. It will be worth it I promise.

You back yet?

Okay, the Chinese people are dang smart.

Tired of the huge soup spoons that slop all over?
Or tired of trying to eat soup with a teaspoon?

This right here solves all these problems and more.

Oh! Hell No!!

I own this exact model!!

No Joke! This little spoon will change your life! No drips from the bottom. It will float on top of your soup, like a little boat. You can take dainty sips from the side or jam the whole thing in your mouth!

I bought mine at my little Asian market for 80 cents a piece. Mine is plastic. But I will be upgrading to the porcelain. You can buy these online. If you click the pic it will take you to a Czech webpage, so if you can read Czech, have at it!

And this is soooo old school, I don't even know when they were developed! Probably when we brushed shoulders with the dinosaurs, back in the day.

Ps. I never used the word groovy as a child. But I am stuck on "Awesome" and it's pissing me off. I'm going to start using the word "Splendid"  instead.

Pps. If you click on the word "download" it will take you to the Kool-Aid mobile app site.

Saturday, A Great Day

Saturday was a great day!

I spent the day with my boy!

We had no plans other than to go to the Denver Flea Market, however we crammed a ton of fun in just a few hours.

First stop was the Mile High Flea Market. I dressed as if I were going to market at  Campo de' Fiori in Rome. I wore a long red dress, sandals and a wide brim hat. Yes, I was rockin' the look and even got a compliment from an Asian woman vendor.

With all the hype that I had read about this flea market, I was a little disappointed. It was small. I say small, in comparison to the Swap Shop in South Florida. I mean, come on! We walked up and down every aisle, and my feet didn't even hurt at the end of our time there!

We did come away winners, though! I bought an ugly Aeropostle bag, it was a necessity as I wanted a bag but couldn't find what I wanted and I was sick of my lipstick hanging around in my bra.
Bag was originally, $32. I bought it for $12.

Note the blue shoes. That's my boy!
But the HUGE deal of the day, was for my boy! He found not one but two 35mm cameras. The vendor wanted $50. That was a huge deal, yet, my boy walked away with those two MINT condition cameras for $32. That's not each! But $32 for both! SCORE!!!

We ate Philly Cheese sandwiches, they were premade. So, of course disappointing, but edible. We also ordered a frozen lemonade. To our surprise, it was not a slushie type drink. Ooooo, and too  sweeeeet!

What I gathered from visiting the flea market, is that if you need umbrellas designed as animals, complete with fabric ears, this is the place to go. If you need a hat, this is the place to go. We bought two hats, both camo bucket style. Both hats for the boy. The first hat was too small, so we found the right size at another vendor and purchased that as well. I guess I now own a camo bucket hat.

I'm sexy and I know it hat. via
Then we cruised down to Denver. I wanted to visit the little Asian market off of Federal and Alameda. At the Asian "home store" I bought a money frog for my boy and one for me. I also bought a dragon figurine. My boy is a dragon, I am a ram. If you follow that kind of stuff. The love of all things Asian can be traced back to my mother and my paternal grandmother. Neither are Asian.

Then I dragged to boy over to the Asian food market. I bought dried black fungus, dried shiitake mushrooms, a long handled mesh colander and MOCHI!!

via

Me lovee MOCHI!!!!

Okay, I love mochi. I must make mochi. I have pinned mochi recipes. If you would like to see them on pinterest- click here! http://pinterest.com/NormalNuttiness/mochi/

Next stop was:

Again, I had heard hype on this and was eager to see what I could see. My over all feeling for this store is, meh. No big deal. Nothing that struck my fancy. I won't be back.

Then we cruised on down to IKEA.

Picture courstey of my boy!
I'm really not an IKEA fan.  However, I did know the first rule of visiting IKEA.

EAT THE SWEDISH MEATBALLS!

So, after walking the whole furniture floor, we went to try the meatballs.
Not only did we try the meatballs, but we ordered the salmon lasagna, the barbecue ribs and the chocolate cake.

Boy, liked the ribs very much and I thought they were tasty. The cake was great! But I would never recommend the salmon lasagna or the famous Swedish meatball. However, if you like greasy meatballs have at it!

We then moseyed on downstairs and bought a huge picture frame. My boy, who is a professional photographer, is promising me one of his photos. I don't know what it is, yet. But I am promised that after my death, it will hang in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Next stop was back up to downtown Denver. We walked to the 16th Street Mall to hit Barnes and Noble. As we walked and walked and walked, I remembered that the Pride Festival was this weekend. Now I am all about expressing individuality, however I recall back in the day you had to pay to see this type of freak show. 'Nuff said about that.

Anywhoo, I bought a Carl Hiaasen book and we headed back out to the car. So we walked and walked and walked. When we got back, I had a parking ticket.

WHAT!!???

We still had twenty three minutes left on the meter! Oh, but wait. That's not what the ticket is for. It's a ticket for not having my license plate attached to my front bumper. But here's the rub. I can't attach it to the front bumper without having my car bumper drilled. So me being the responsible person that I try to be, I placed my plate in my windshield. Oh, and that's a $75 ticket.

So, I got to thinking. I will fight this because I am fairly certain that if my rear light was busted out, I would not have received a ticket. I gotta find a cop to ask. Such bullshit.

Anywhoo.... next we drove down to the river.
It had been a warm day out and a few people lingered in the water. We walked down and tested the coldness of the water. Oooo, chilly!!! I found a freshwater clam shell, both sides intact. I had the boy grab it out for me. I love my boy!
And I would love to bring the monkeys down here. Maybe one at a time would be best. Probably better if I just forget that idea.

And that concludes my Saturday. Thanks to the boy for the great pictures and his love!

Oooo, Oooo That smell, can't you smell that smell

Once upon a time a beautiful princess named....umm, Sarah.
Princess Sarah was gliding through her palatial chateau where she came upon, what was commonly known back then as a kitchen. A truly magical place! Therein resided many a magical creature, The Viking, The Kitchen Aid,  The Bosch and the Sub-Zero Wolf.

Princess Sarah a wonderful, gentlewoman and benevolent ruler of all she surveyed stopped briefly to admire her world. She tilted her exquisitely cute and upturned nose and sniffed. And promptly swooned towards the most expensive wood flooring in the world. Unfortunately, she knocked her head on the finely crafted cabinetry which was clad in enameled lava stone.

Poor Princess Sarah was thrust into the modern Earth world. Poor woman. Sarah now a mere mortal with a job and bills to pay realized she had no memory of opulence and wealth. Poor woman.

So anywhooo, I was going to the kitchen to get some iced tea when I detected an odor. This odor registers a number 2 in all odoriferous smells on the planet. And what did I find on my counter behind my generic food processor?
Ta daaa!!

Not a gross picture of a rotting onion!

Another Not gross picture of a rotting onion.

And finally, Another Not gross picture of a rotting onion.
But, I did find a picture of the onion just prior to the whole rotting, noxious odor grossness.

Enjoy!
HA!

ps. not a paid endorsement of anything, for pete's sake have you even read this blog?

Something Wicked This Way Comes...

I'm moving, in case you didn't know.
I created The Move list to keep me on track.

No where on this list does it say, Use up every bit of crap in your refrigerator to create unawesome, unappealing meals.

But that's what I have been doing.

Today's meal went something like this...This is so going to gross you out.
But, what's done, is done.

THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL!

I took the last remaining piece of flounder out of the freezer and left it on the counter for TWO maybe THREE days. I'm not kidding.
Then I finally remembered, CRAP!!!!!
Sooo, when I finally remembered that I had fish on the counter I did the next reasonable thing.

I cut open the bag and smelled it.

Smells like fish to me.

Then, I rinsed off the flounder and made a batter coating that involved cornmeal, salt, pepper, Creole seasoning (which will remain anonymous, I really don't want to upset this great company with my grossness) and some....wait for it...wait for it....flour with moths.

*sigh*

Next, I went back to the freezer. I needed bread. I found one lonely roll dated July 29th. Oooo, BONUS 2012!! I threw that in the oven to warm up while I fried the fish.

I needed something to slather on the bread, rooted through my fridge and found mayo.
I didn't know I owned mayo.
I was afraid to look at the expiration date.

Now what's a meal without a veggie?

Back to the freezer I go!
Stir fry asparagus? No. Baby peas? No.
Brussel sprouts? But of course! But not any ordinary Brussel sprouts, these are freezer burned. Perfect accompaniment to this meal of....never mind.

How did it taste, you ask?

Actually not too bad. The fish sandwich was pretty tasty and well, Brussel sprouts are Brussel sprouts.

Bon Appetit!
